Lecture 1: Applied Professional Practice

Today I attended the online module launch for my APP module. With Coronavirus still being a concern, the majority of this module will be taking place online, through live lectures and remote LinkedIn Learning Courses. For this module my focus will be on my blog where I will reflect on my progression and process throughout this year, also building on my portfolio and social media platforms.

Due to the Covid Pandemic all of my placements were unfortunately cancelled, this is why I believe it is imperative that I maintain an online presence that showcases my work in a professional manner.

During the launch the module Leader Adelina Court discussed the importance of our personal style and identity as a designer. Reviewing my own style through my website, portfolio and social media I looked for inconsistencies in my aesthetics. Whilst I am still pleased with the outcome of my logo and website, I feel my portfolio needs a lot of work before I graduate. This module being the perfect opportunity to develop my portfolio.

Review of Feedback from lvl 5

I decided to reflect back on my feedback from last years ‘Developing Professional Practice’ Module to try and understand what areas I really needed to pay attention to this year. As well as setting myself some goals with this in mind.

One of the key issues that stood out to me was my portfolio not only does it appear rushed and unprofessional but it also fails to match the consistent theme running through my website. This is something I hope to avoid doing in the future. I think the best way to ensure I maintain my branding style is to create a mood board of fonts, colours and general reference imagery that communicates my work effectively, and that I can refer back to when working on something new.

Another issue with my previous submission was my lack of social media posting. On my personal account I post a maximum of five to six times a year so for me six posts over a couple weeks was pretty good. However with the growing prevalence of social media within our lives I think it's important I not only maintain but also grow my professional account as well as cultivating an area where I can showcase my work and progress as a designer.
